Institute for System Engineering and Robotics, Sofia, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

The Institute for System Engineering and Robotics (ISER) is one of the largest engineering institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia. The main scientific programme is in the fields of robotics, control and regulation, mechatronics, sensors, and scientific and Specialised instrumentation.

ISER has been an associated member of CMS since 2007, but some contributions to CMS came before that date. A team of several engineers, physicists and technicians from ISER is involved in different projects and tasks of CMS, including integration of electronics components and cabling of the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) Super Modules and endcap Dees; commissioning and special tests of the ECAL in the CMS Integration Center and after installation at P5; participating with CAD experts in the Engineering and Integration Center of CMS; responsibility for the data management, planning, labelling and documentation of CMS cabling and CMS equipment traceability databases and Web interface development; constructing and running different test setups to study ageing of the ECAL components; permanently running the ECAL spare Super Module in Building 892 to test DAQ software before real implementation and to test new components for the ECAL upgrade; participation in development and tests of electronics boards and components for the future ECAL upgrade. All ECAL related activities are carried out in collaboration and coordination with the Institute for Particle Physics, ETH, Zurich.
