University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)

Professor Mark Adams, from the UIC High-Energy Physics group, joined CMS in 1995 and contributed to the US-led HCAL project, working on optical read-out and front-end triggering. The group grew to five faculty members for high-energy particle physics and two for high-energy nuclear physics, with numerous students and postdocs. Over the years, the group contributed to the Tracker Outer Barrel, HLT, Phase-1 Upgrade FPIX and Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger.

On the particle physics front, the UIC group brought its Tevatron expertise to contribute to object identification (Jet/MET, b-tagging, energy flow), studies of top quarks and Higgs bosons, and numerous searches beyond the Standard Model (boosted ttbar resonances, SUSY, Exotics). On the nuclear physics front, the group brought its RHIC expertise in heavy-ion physics triggering, centrality measurements, and especially physics analyses utilising forefront correlations techniques.

About

In October 1992, a ‘Letter of Intent’ was submitted to the LHC Experiments Committee (LHCC), offically marking the formation of the CMS Collaboration. This website commemorates the 25th anniversary of CMS, celebrated in 2017.
