Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER)

The IISER Pune group has been a member of CMS since 2014. It consists of two faculty members and eight graduate students.

The group is mainly involved in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. Their interests span final states from multi-jets to multi-leptons, and from Supersymmetry to Seesaw. Understanding jets and missing transverse energy is the heart of the physics programme at a hadron collider. Dr. S. Sharma has been deeply involved in inclusive Supersymmetry searches since early data-taking, and she is now leading efforts for accurate reconstruction and calibration of jets and missing energy at CMS. The group is heavily involved in implementing upgrades of the CMS Tracker in the CMS Fast Simulation. As part of IISER’s emphasis on undergraduate research, over 30 undergraduate students from IISER and institutes across India have worked on short projects in experimental particle physics with the group.

About

In October 1992, a ‘Letter of Intent’ was submitted to the LHC Experiments Committee (LHCC), offically marking the formation of the CMS Collaboration. This website commemorates the 25th anniversary of CMS, celebrated in 2017.
