University and INFN Genova

University and INFN Genova is one of the founding member institutes of CMS, having signed the Letter of Intent in 1992. The group has contributed to the design of the superconducting solenoidal magnet, and has subsequently followed the construction of the solenoid cold mass in Ansaldo Magneti (now ASG Superconductors) in Genova, and its commissioning at CERN. In 2012 the group expanded, starting new activities in tracking studies and in top-quark physics and, later, joining the CMS-TOTEM Precision Proton Spectrometer (CT-PPS) project. For CT-PPS, it has designed and produced the support mechanics and read-out electronics of the 3D Pixel Tracker, and contributed most of the related acquisition and reconstruction software. Physics analysis interest is focused on top-quark and forward physics. The group is involved in the Tracker upgrade project for HL-LHC.

About

In October 1992, a ‘Letter of Intent’ was submitted to the LHC Experiments Committee (LHCC), offically marking the formation of the CMS Collaboration. This website commemorates the 25th anniversary of CMS, celebrated in 2017.
